Cakes, in installments

For many years I've enjoyed doing cake decorating. Unfortunately I had no idea how to do it. So finally this past fall I was able to start taking the Wilton cake decorating classes. I ended up taking the first 3 classes. I didn't like the stuff they had to offer in the 4th so I didn't take it.

So I found out that I really enjoy cake decorating now that I know what I'm doing. I've started making cakes on the side - you know besides my full time job of being a mom, homeschool teacher, maid, etc. My friends and family have been very supportive. Thank you friends and family. It's always nice to know someone's got your back.

The very first cake I ever did was for G jr's first birthday. It was a big tractor of some kind, I'm not sure what you call it. Earth mover? Anyway it had the big scoop in the front. I turned out pretty cute being that it was my first one and I had no idea what I was doing. If I can ever figure out my scanner I'll post a picture of it.

Here are some of the cakes that I did before I took the classes (ie: before I knew what I was doing).

Simple I know. This was for Kmac's 5th birthday. This was when we got her a kitten.

Sorry this is on it's side. I'm not sure why it rotates when I upload it. Anyway, this was for a friend's birthday. She is a huge Steelers fan.

When I saw the pictures for this cake I just had to try it. It was for my birthday a couple of years ago. Don't let the picture fool ya, those are 8" cakes. It was pretty big.

This was for Tommi's first birthday.

Love this guy. He was at least 3 1/2 feet long. Huge headache but I thought he turned out okay. For G jr's birthday last year.

This is my competition. G sr and the kids surpised me with this cake for my birthday last year. They forgot to put the water in the mix so it turned out more like a big brownie. LOL. This picture was before they put all thirty some candles in it. Gotta love em!

Oh my...can you mail cakes??

I can't wait to see what they look like when "you know what you're doing" cuz it looks like you know already :)

Awesome! I usually pour stuff out of a box into a mixing bowl and then into a regular type pan for baking... I think mine would most closely resemble your hubby and kids' version.
