Sewing debut

While we've got Tommi's birthday on our minds, I wanted to share what I made for her. It's my first attempt at sewing (since I was way younger). I made a shoe quilt to go with the whole shoe theme. I came up with the design myself since I don't know how to read patterns. Plus I had some helpful advice from my momma-cita who is a great sewer (maybe I should say seamstress!). It's far from perfect but I got tired of ripping out seams so I just went with it. Kmac and I are going to start learning to sew together. Technically the sewing machine is hers since we got it for her for Christmas. I think we'll start with something simple like a bag. We'll keep you posted.

So cute! I have some great kids sewing books. I am also self taught and my best advice is to become real friendly with the seam ripper and don't give up.

Thanks girls. You really are too nice. My seam ripper and I really have a love/hate relationship. It loves to mock me, I hate the sight of it. Unfortunately I used it so much I'm thinking my next project will be a special belt just for my seam ripper so I can always have it within reach.

Wendy - thanks. Funny you mention that. There's a reason I don't have a close up of it. :) For some reason my sewing machine was feeling lazy and only wanted to do the "zig" and sometimes the "zag." So my stitching goes something like this: zig, zag, zig, straight, zig, zag, zig, straight, zig, straight, etc, etc, etc. I just pray that my two year old will be forgiving and look at it as a shoe with personality, and not a drunken zig zag.
