Confessions...it's been a while

Several weeks ago my parents stopped by for a visit and to see how the house was coming together. They hadn't seen our new furniture yet so we were showing everything off. Well G sr and I bought a king size bed for our bedroom. Man that sucker is big. No more worries about him crossing the line. You know, the imaginary one that runs down the middle of the bed? Yup, we have one.

Anywho, the bed has the normal boards that lay horizontally between the side rails to support the mattress. From those boards there are smaller dowel type boards that go vertically from the support board to the ground. Got a good visual? Good. Moving on. We needed to move the bed several inches to center it on the wall. So we pushed and pulled and heaved and hoed. And we got it moved. Job well done.

When I went to crawl into bed I was totally sinking into the middle. Huh. I didn't remember this being a problem when we had the mattresses on the floor those first few days. Intellesting. Velly, velly intellesting. I was thinking the bed was just not in as good of shape as I'd remembered it from 14 hours earlier. Even so, I decided to investigate. When I looked under the bed I noticed that all of those little dowel like supports (the vertical ones) were now laying on the floor. Apparently when we need to move the bed it has to be picked up. Oh. Okay. Good to know for next time.

I gently encouraged (with the look and subtle undertones, I'm sure) my manly man to come back upstairs to help me fix our bed...again. He was a little frustrated at this point since it was no easy task to put the beast together in the first place. And every single one of the vertical little supports had to be nailed back into the bigger support boards. I think those poor nails got the brunt of his frustration. I just stayed out of his way, didn't say another word. Well, except maybe a feeble 'thank you.'

Now might be a good time to inform you that the kids were in bed, but awake still, and G jr's bedroom is directly below us.

Back to my parents visit. We were in our bedroom showing them the new bed and I started telling them our story of how we almost broke our brand new bed on our first night of having it. Yes, those are pretty much the exact words I used with them. I'll just let that sink in for a moment. See a problem here?

Now, in my head I knew exactly why we had almost broken the bed. But I can see how someone else might have construed the beginning of my story to be going down a completely different path. Of coarse I see it now, I didn't see it then. On top of that, G jr starts to help explain my story by saying, "Yeah, all I could hear was this bang, bang, banging..."

Need I say more? My poor mother was cracking up and wondering why oh why she was at that particular place at that particular time hearing that particular story. My dad just stood there stonewalled.

Once I finally realized how the explanation of the almost broken bed was being misunderstood I turned a lovely shade of red and started busting up. It's always fun to talk about that with your parents. Eh-hem.

We made haste in finishing the real story with better details. None too quickly though.
